and &#8220;Bloomie&#8217;s.&#8221; The company reportedly aims&nbsp;to add 30 off-mall locations by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #6f737b; class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evolution of the mall and its traditional retailers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.retailpro.com\/News\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/2024-05-Big-retailers-smaller-Larger-impact-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1676073\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.retailpro.com\/News\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/2024-05-Big-retailers-smaller-Larger-impact-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.retailpro.com\/News\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/2024-05-Big-retailers-smaller-Larger-impact-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.retailpro.com\/News\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/2024-05-Big-retailers-smaller-Larger-impact-1-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Macy&#8217;s joins a trend of large retailers with a well-heeled customer base that are leaving the confines of traditional, suburban malls where they have long been&nbsp;coveted as &#8220;anchors.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many anchor retailers, from Neiman Marcus to Sears, have faced dire economic straits and left malls, leaving property managers to reassess the need for storefronts to fill those vacancies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, many malls are experiencing a rebirth by including a new mix such as bowling, golf, fitness centers and even apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such planning benefits the remaining retailers by increasing foot traffic within the mall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best Buy is also testing offering a \u201ccurated selection\u201d of products, Geek Squad services, and scan-and-go capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It tested the concept in late 2022 with a 5,000 sq.ft. location in Charlotte, N.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The off-mall location strategy of creating a slimmer, more curated customer experience has been successfully employed by Nordstrom through their Nordstrom Local brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the key reasons these locations are popular is their convenience factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers can easily return and pick up online orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, customers tend to buy more merchandise once they are in the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Nordstrom, the Local brand&#8217;s average customer spends 2.5 times more than a regular Nordstrom customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shifting the type of physical presence a retailer has is easier when a retailer uses a POS software with flexibility, especially when it comes to the back-end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retail Pro Prism\u2019s architecture allows for independent and easy management of opening new stores around the world, easing any other number of questions this sort of change in operations creates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The depth of customer analytics Nordstrom has accumulated allows it to provide targeted services it knows its shoppers appreciate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the services offered at Nordstrom Local stores include personal stylists, pickup and return for eCommerce orders, alterations, gift wrapping, dry cleaning and complimentary refreshments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such shopping perks illustrate the importance of understanding customer personas to draw and retain shoppers, in addition to the actual in-store merchandise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crucial to success in this new paradigm is continuing to exceed customers&#8217; expectations, both in terms of product inventory and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s a big ask in a slimmed-down space.
