US Patriot Tactical's strategy for rapid expansion that doesn't compromise CX


BACKGROUND

Since 2000, U.S. Patriot Tactical (USP) has served the country's heroes in uniform by supplying the military and tactical goods they need to fulfill their unique calling as service men and women.

Saul Stafford, Chief Operating Officer, came onboard in 2016 after serving in the military for 12 years. His military background is essential to understanding customers' needs and expectations.

The veteran-owned and managed retailer stays in sync with the military community, putting their customers first. As a result, the retailer has grown very quickly: US Patriot Tactical currently operates 68 stores and continues to expand.

"As you grow, your needs change," Stafford said. "We needed flexibility and control that would allow us to capitalize on growth opportunities, and we got that with Retail Pro and SAP."

REQUIREMENTS FOR GROWTH

When the time came to update their legacy retail management system, U.S. Patriot Tactical knew they needed a solution that would enable them to further their dedication to quality and customer experience.

Rapid expansion drove their need for centralized control, store-level autonomy, and greater efficiency.

Their global footprint -- U.S. plus Japan, Korea, and Guam – meant USP needed software that could streamline the task of complying with each state and country's local requirements, including sales tax rates.

The integrated Retail Pro POS and SAP Business One powered by SAP HANA solution fulfilled all these needs.

"Our Retail Pro Business Partner, Retail Information Systems, and our SAP Partner, Vision 33, have been very supportive throughout the process of integrating Retail Pro and SAP HANA," Stafford said. "With their consultation, we were able to define requirements and bring our data to a structured condition that has drastically improved our operations and postured us for future success."

With help from Kathryn Heymann and Darrel Dejardins at USP, we were able to understand all the requirements and adapt the Retail Pro-SAP link for their needs," commented Jaime Fontecilla, Eniac Director of Technology. "Data exchanges were done automatically and at different frequencies, regularly updating the HANA Database in SAP and the Oracle database in Retail Pro and ensuring data integrity. The Retail Pro-SAP link enabled great time savings for US Patriot Tactical."

Stafford's advice to retailers considering updating from legacy systems: "Get a good understanding of your current requirements as well as anticipated requirements for the next three years or so," Stafford said. "It will be an evolution of processes, systems and operations, and you might not get it right the first time around, but it will help you keep growing without losing the level of service you've promised to your customers."

USP uses reporting in Retail Pro for a quick, focused snapshot of store performance and other relevant details. It helps the company understand inventory and demand, for example, providing actionable insights.

"In a heavily tailored business like ours, replenishment is a unique challenge. The integration gives us the flexibility of forecasting and scheduling with greater accuracy so we can replenish our stores, which vary from 200 sq.ft. to 20,000 sq.ft., without missing a beat," said Stafford.
